Dealing with a Damaged or Broken Crown

Posted .

When Dr. Yong Eon Park installed your crown it is intended to be durable and to last for a long time. Unfortunately, things like a blow to the face, a hard fall can chip, crack or otherwise damage a crown. If you have a damaged crown, you need to call Dr. Yong Eon Park as soon as possible.

If for some reason you can’t immediately see Dr. Yong Eon Park there are a few things you can do to help manage the situation.

It’s important that you don’t attempt to brush or clean any of the damaged crown. If the incident has exposed some of the abutment your tooth might feel very sensitive. If you have blood or debris in your mouth, you can gently rinse your mouth with lukewarm salt water. This is the best way to clear your mouth without inciting pain.

If your abutment cracked or was otherwise damaged, it might cause serious complications. In a situation like this Dr. Yong Eon Park might have to perform a root canal to restore enough structure to cement a completely new crown back in place.

If you have lost a crown or damaged an abutment you should call Dr. Yong Eon Park as soon as possible at 661.588.2772 to schedule an appointment.
