Dealing With Different Kinds of Cavities

Posted .

As you probably know, cavities are a common problem. Fortunately, cavities are less common than they have been in the past. Sadly, despite their prevalence cavities can be hard to identify.

In reality, there are three different types of cavities. Of course, all cavities are caused by decay. In fact, the simplest type of cavity is surface decay. This type of cavity usually grows slowly and is the easiest to treat. The second type of cavity is pit and fissure decay, which usually appears on your back teeth. These cavities are deeper than surface decay. The final type, usually known as root decay, occurs when decay reaches the center of your teeth. Root canal therapy is usually needed to treat this type of decay.

To prevent more complications, we recommend treating cavities as soon as possible. If cavities aren’t treated, decay can spread deeper into your teeth and create more problems.

Luckily, there are a few ways to recognize a cavity. The earliest sign of a cavity is pain, which may occur when you bite down. Similarly, you may experience sensitive teeth, or a brown or black spot.
